Originals by Viola
Chattanooga-based Artist Rebecca Viola Richards has been honing her skills in mixed media art along with encaustic art for the last several years. She has blended her need to create by creating a conversation between color and texture. This is accomplished with an under-painting of either oils or acrylics on canvas or cradle board. She then develops texture by combining various organic substances such as geodes, agates, crystals, glass, stones, fibers, fossils, shells, and assorted mediums, finishing the piece with archival resin or varnish. Mark making and use of fabric in both her encaustic as well as her mixed media pieces add interest through multi-dimension, which bring connectedness between the real and the abstract.
Rebecca enjoys the process of starting a piece without knowing where the finish line is. Loving the challenge of making something out of nothing brings life and excitement to her creative journey. Her art is a collection of animals, abstract and landscapes.
Being a native of Cleveland, TN. she feels close ties to Chattanooga, TN and it's vibrant art scene. Rebecca is a frequent exhibitor at the Collegedale Market near Chattanooga and has had her works sold at the Southern Market in Knoxville, TN. She has also been accepted into several Juried Fine Art shows including The St. James Court Fine Art Show in Louisville, KY, and Asheville Fine Art Show, Asheville, NC. She continues to build her skills by attending workshops at Arrowmont Art School, Gatlinburg, TN.
